Floral Design at Texas Tech

  • Emerging part of the Horticulture curriculum
  • Draws interests from students in many academic disciplines
  • First exposure for many students to floral design or horticulture
  • Opportunities for competition through involvement with Phi Alpha Xi and Horticulture Society Judging Teams
  • Exposes students to career options in floral design and other aspects of horticulture

Horticulture at Texas Tech

  • The curriculum is designed to give students a broad exposure to horticultural science as well as floral art.
  • Many courses contain elements and principles of design:
  • Principles of Horticulture
  • Floral Design
  • Herbaceous Plant Materials
  • Opportunities exist for participating in judging team competitions and internships.
  • These courses allow students to create floral art by using the elements and principles of design with plant materials as the medium.

Why the Need for an Endowment?

  • Floral design at Texas Tech is currently offered once every, two years.
  • The materials for teaching such a course are very expensive.
  • With endowed support, the course will be offered more frequently and the students' experience will be enriched.
  • A second course in floral design might also be developed as interest in the program increases.
  • Scholarships to design students might also be possible depending on the size of the endowment.
